Fresh Looks: Top Benefits of Dermal Fillers

Did you know that the average adult has about 8 pounds of skin? If you were to stretch it out, it would cover 22 square feet!

As you age, however, it tends to become thinner and drier and that can lead to wrinkles and fine lines.

While there’s no way to get rid of them completely, there are treatments that can lessen their appearance—dermal fillers being one of them.

What are they? What are the benefits of dermal fillers? Find out all that and more in our guide below!

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are jelly-like substances that are injected into the skin to add volume and fullness. Generally speaking, you’ll see visible results immediately after treatment. With that said, it can take up to a month for the filler to fully integrate into the tissue.

As far as effects go, they can last anywhere from a few months to a few years. Take hyaluronic acid fillers, for example, they usually last between 6 to 18 months.

Other options include calcium hydroxyapatite (a gel that lasts around 18 months) or poly-L-lactic acid (a man-made material that can last up to two years). Currently, the only ‘permanent’ filler is polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), which lasts five years.

Why Should You Get Dermal Fillers?

One of the greatest benefits of dermal fillers is that they can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. They’ll restore lost volume to the face, which will smooth out any deep-set creases. They’ll also plump up the skin, which will give it a more youthful look.

For example, they can help reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds—deep lines that form from the bottom of the nose to the ends of the mouth. Not only that, but they can also treat marionette lines, which run from the lip borders to the chin.

That’s not all—they can also augment the appearance of other areas such as the temples, cheeks, nose, and lips. Certain types of dermal fillers can also rejuvenate the hands and improve the appearance of acne scars.

How Much Do Dermal Fillers Cost?

Dermal fillers can cost anywhere from $600 to $1,000 per injection. At the end of the day, it depends on the type of filler that you choose. For example, hyaluronic acid tends to be on the lower end ($600 to $700) while PMMA tends to be on the higher end ($1000).

Keep in mind, however, that most individuals will require multiple injections to achieve desired results.

And like most cosmetic treatments, they’re not usually covered by insurance. However, most clinics offer financing plans so don’t hesitate to ask.

Improve Your Appearance With Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a good option for those who’d like to add some volume to their face. If anything, they’ll plump up your features for a more youthful and rejuvenated look.
