How To Enjoy The Great Outdoors Whatever The Weather

No matter where you live in the world, you’ll know that the weather can be a problem at times. Although we need rain just as much as we need sun, and although the seasons will often dictate the temperature, it can still feel as though sometimes the weather is preventing us from doing what we want to do, and we can resent it for that.

However, it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, you can go outside and enjoy the fresh air – something we should all do a lot more – in any weather (unless it’s dangerous, of course), if you know how to do so. Read on to find out more.

Have The Right Gear

The most useful thing you can do when you want to go outside is to have the right equipment and wear the right clothing. You’ll also want to wear long sleeves and pants, even if you initially think a t-shirt and shorts is the best option – just make sure they are made of thin material because in this way you’ll stay cool and you’ll be protected from the heat.

If we’re looking at the other end of the scale or thermometer and it’s very cold, you’ll need to wear much thicker items. Plus, you’ll need gloves, a scarf, and a warm hat, as well as boots.

Schedule Outdoor Time

Stick to your scheduled outdoor time, whatever the weather, and you’ll soon get used to it. If you’re wondering what scheduled outdoor time we’re talking about, that’s also something to get used to. Everyone needs to go outside at least once a day to get some fresh air and vitamin D. Not only is this good for you for these reasons, but it means you are moving around and not looking at your screen, at least for a short while.

The problem is that the weather can often serve as the perfect excuse to skip your ten minutes or so of outdoor time (this is the recommended minimum; if you can be outside for longer, then that’s even better). You don’t have to let it. Don’t allow the weather to be an excuse for not getting your daily dose of fresh air. Even if it’s raining, you can still go for a quick stroll around the backyard, up and down the street, or around the parking lot, as long as you have good shoes and a waterproof coat. Stick to your schedule, and you’ll reap the benefits.

Make It Fun

Sometimes the reason people don’t want to go outside is that it’s not very interesting. Just going for a walk might be good for you, but it’s not always very exciting, and when the weather is too hot, too cold, too wet, and so on, it is even less fun. The key, then, is to make your walks exciting and to make them fun. To begin with, you can do with other people as having someone to talk to is, for some people, better than being alone.

Another idea is to try geocaching, which is like a big treasure hunt and gives your walks some meaning and adventure. Once you get into this hobby, you’ll find it really doesn’t matter what kind of weather you’re facing as long as you can go and find some caches.

You can even make up your own games, such as having a checklist of animals you want to spot or makes of cars you need to find. As long as you can make your outside time more interesting, the weather won’t be a problem.
